PLEASANT WORDS ARE SWEET LIKE A HONEYCOMB (Marriage)

PYCanada   -

“Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones”.

By: Mrs. Priscilla Chemel

(Proverbs 16:24)

Communication in marriage is fundamental to marital health and vitality. God our father communicated in so many ways. In creating the heaven and the earth, God communicated. He said, let there be light and there was light. God speaks to us through his word. By our words, we can develop a beautiful and prosperous marriage that glorifies God. Communication is a process and couples who learn this process get closer in their relationship.

Even couples who have been married for over 50 years cannot always predict what the other person is thinking. Many couples assume their partners ‘just know’ or ‘should know’ what they are thinking. This should not be the case, we need to speak what we feel freely, openly and feel safe doing so.

Many times after we are married, we leave behind the beautiful phrases we often used during our courtship. ” I love you, thank you, I appreciate you, you mean so much to me, you are a great dad, it was great talking to you, thank you for your support, I like those jeans on you, you smell great, I am not too happy with you, I could use some help here, can we talk about what happened earlier today”, etc.  Verbalizing what we think helps us feel loved and appreciated.

Proverbs 16:24 help us understand that pleasant words are sweet and therefore as desirable as honey from a honeycomb. Appropriately spoken words that encourage, soothe, or commend can be most pleasant and even uplifting to the point of helping a person feel better physically.

Even though we are married we need to ensure that we speak words to uplift the soul of our spouses. We need to make each other feel good using words to express how we feel at each given time. Couples need to put time, thought and love into the words we speak to each other.

God wants us to communicate effectively in our marriages, He excepts couples to have the willingness to learn how to communicate with each other. As He continues to speak to us through dreams, visions etc., we need to ensure that we are communicating in our marriages to bring happiness into our homes.

Prayer:

God, show me how I can improve my communication in my marriage. I need You to help me speak pleasant words to my spouse at all times without any fear or guilt. Help me express my feelings openly to my spouse. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
