THE BOOK OF ESTHER, WHAT CAN WE LEARN.
CHAPTER 1,
Good morning everyone,
We thank our God for such a wonderful day and time. We thank Him for His gift of grace and love for us even when we are still faithless, His faithfulness has been for us. May His name be praised now and forever.
This week our discussion will be focussed on the entire book of Esther, we will look at some case studies and some important features found in this book. The book contains 10 chapters and its my prayer before we finish studying the entire book, the Holy Spirit will help us to understand some things and will help us to apply such things that will be revealed to us by the Holy Spirit.
The following will be the key things we will be looking at.
(1) The humble nature of Esther ( Chapter 2 vrs 10)
(2) Learning how to keep your secret ( Chapter 2 vrs 20)
(3) Glorifying God with the beauty given to you and using it positively (Chapter 2 vrs 7)
(4) The Man Mordecai, his love and care for Esther( Chapter 2 vrs 11)
(5) The favour of God (Chapter 2 vrs 15)
(6) Haman, the Agagite and his evil plans.( Chapter 3)
(7) What does the world say we are ( Chapter 3 vrs 8)
(8) The power of fasting and prayers ( Chapter 4)
(9) The results of Esther’s Courage, ( Chapter 5)
(10) God turns Haman’s evil plans to blessing for the Jews
(11) The patience of Esther, Her care for others ( Chapter 7,8)
(12) If God be for us who can be against us ( Chapter 9,10)
As much as the Spirit will give us strength we will be looking at these key features of the book and other things that may come across during the course of the discussion.
In chapter 1 vrs 1-9 we see the royal feast of king Ahasuerus, and here we can learn some few things from it.
First of all we could see the pride of king Ahasuerus and the vain glory of his extravagant feast. It is better to have a feast or dinner of leaves to the glorification of God than to have an entire feats of wine with all the noise that was associated with it.
Self exaltation, and self gratification of the side of King Ahasuerus is also seen.It should be noted that, even though no one was been compelled, and any one who drank in excess did it on their own fault, but we should also note that it has consequences.
I will refer you to Habakkuk 2:15 and Habakkuk 2:16.
What can we learn from this, well we should not do things or expose things that has the potential of causing someone to sin.
In verse 10-22 of Chapter 1, the feast of king Ahasuerus ended in heaviness, and the queen disregarding his orders.
What can we learn from this, well I will say, leaders and people of position should be careful in commanding or requesting things that may reasonably be disregarded or disobeyed.
We can also see the effect of wine, how it made the king lose his reason.Even though king Ahasuerus ruled  over 127 provinces, he couldn’t rule over his own spirit as a result of wine.
To conclude with the introduction to the book of Esther, I will say in every thing, we should rejoice that our Lord reigns, and surely God will overturn the folly of  the wicked that His own glory will be promoted and as a result our safety, protection and happiness will also be promoted.
God bless you and have a blessed day.
