GUARD YOUR MOUTH, KEEP SECRET WHEN NEEDED AND REVEAL SECRET WHEN NECESSARY, A CASE STUDY OF  ESTHER AND MORDECAI

Bible Reference: Esther 2:20 (Keeping secret)
                            Esther 2:21-23 ( Revealing secret)
Good morning everyone,
We thank God for such a wonderful day in our life, we give Him all the glory and praise. We thank him also for the life of our friends and for the life of other brethren who for the sake of the gospel are going through persecution and affliction. We pray the good God will grant us the strength to stand firm when we encounter such situation.May His name be praised now and forever.
Today in our study we will be looking at a very important and interesting aspect of our christian walk, which was demonstrated by Esther and as a results made her succeed and that is the ability to keep secret when needed.
One will ask, is it a sin to keep secret? I will say No but in some cases it can cause harm if not revealed. There are somethings people should not know at certain times and vice versa. For example if a friend should trust you and tells you something confidential, you are not expected to go about telling people what the person shared with you. This in my point of view will support the reason why it is not a sin to keep secret.
From  our bible reference, Esther had to obey the instructions of her uncle Mordecai and never made known her kindred or her people. There would have been some consequences in my view if Esther did not keep that secret about her kindred or her people.
As christians, we are expected to encourage one another and also help one another grow in faith. It is also expected of us as christians to build trust and so if we reveal people’s secret brings about misunderstanding and trust will be completely lost.
Are there bible reference that support the need to sometimes keep secret? Yes there are and we shall take a look at some few ones.
1. Proverbs 25:9
2.Proverbs 12:23
3.Proverbs 21:23
4.Proverbs 13:3
5.Mathew 16:19-20
One interesting thing that came in kind when deliberating on this topic was the story of Eve and the serpent. Eve was not able to keep her secret and as results the devil had advantage and was able to deceive her.
Having made know the instances we should keep our secret or keep the secret of our friends, it should be noted that as Christians there is nothing that we can hide from God. Hebrews 4:13, Psalm 90:8, Psalm 44:21.
What can we do as christians when we encounter situations which needs to be made public but we might think it will be seen as betrayal, well I will suggest we sometimes have to use biblical discernment, and seek wisdom from God in tough situations.(James 1:5)
The decision of Esther to keep her secret about her nationality and the other Jews forms the basis for Gods plan to save the Jews from the plans of Haman.
Like I said sometimes it is not a good thing to keep secret, some secrets if kept can cause harm and great damage as we see in Esther 2:21-23.
It should be noted that in both case study, the end result was positive. Esther’s ability to keep her secret form the basis of God saving the Jews and Mordecai revealing the plans of the two eunuchs made him receive honor and dignity from the king ( Esther 6:1-3)
To summarize todays discussion I will leave you to think about what these bible verse means to you and how it is applicable to todays discussion.
