DEFENDING THE TRUTH, AND REBUKING FALSE TEACHING; THE ROLE OF THE YOUTH IN THIS BATTLE

Bible Reference:” Titus 1:10-11, 16 “For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group. 11 They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.”

Good morning everyone,

Blessed be to God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord for the gift of life and strength through the help of the Holy Spirit given to us by God. We thank God for his continual and evergreen love for us even in our faithless condition, He is still faithful to us. May His name be praised now and forever.

In our previous study we discussed about how we should make good use of our youthful age in winning souls for Christ. Today we will be looking at some reasons why it is important for us to enrich our understanding in the word of God to defend the truth and rebuke false teachings.

What then is false teaching and how can we as young Christians be able to identify teachings that are false. It may sound so simple but trust me it takes only the grace of God. False teachings are teachings that takes away or add or contradicts the doctrines given by God. Here is the case most of these false teachers also uses the same bible we use, therefore like I said it takes only the grace and the Holy Spirit to help us.

Paul knew the danger associated when we don’t enrich ourselves with the word of God and so instructed Titus and all the elders to see to it that they hold firm of the sure word of God. Young Christians, it is important for us to dedicate some of our time in the search and study of the word of God not just what we hear on Sundays because most of us don’t even take notes during Sunday services.

We cannot sit back ideally as energetic people and allow many false teaching to circulate and turning many to the devil. It is our duty to arise and rebuke such teachings boldly be it in our own church or outside the church, but care must be taken such that in attempt of defending the faith, you do not leave people moving away from the faith because every soul is important.

What are the dangers if we fail to challenge false teachings

  • There is the possibility of turning many hearts to believe they are saved even if they are living in sin
  • False teaching has the ability of upsetting the Christian faith

How can we identify a teaching as false?

  1. First of all we need the grace and the Holy Spirit. (10these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God). (1 Corinthians 2:10-11)

  1. We also need to develop the habit of study the word of God:(For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel. Ezra 7:10)
  2. Asking for clarification or further explanation if some things are not so clear or a message you heard is not convincing. ( and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. (Acts 8:26-32)
  3. Attending youth, PENSA, home cell meetings, and other bible studies meeting. ( And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching (Hebrews 10:24-25)

To conclude for today’s search for scriptures, there is the need and it is a requirement of us just as we ought to preach the good news to unbelievers, we should also be bold to rebuke any false teachings either internal or external for the glory of God but not for human gain.

God bless you
