ARE YOU READY FOR THAT DAY?
Bible Reference. Zephaniah 1:15-16. “That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,
A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.”
Good morning everyone,
Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Christ Jesus for such a wonderful day.We give him all the praise and thanksgiving for his greater love and grace for sinners like us.May his name be praised now and forever.
The book of Zephaniah which contains three chapters seeks to throw more light on repentance and caution people about the destruction of the enemies of the Jews.It also seeks to bring comfort to those who abide in the Lord and encourages those who abide in the Lord with promises of blessing in the future and how God will restore the nations and how the church in the latter days will be prosperous.
Today we will be reminding ourselves about what we all know and have heard since we accepted the Lord Jesus as our saviour or perhaps before we were saved we knew about these things.
This passage from Zephaniah might not be directly linked to the judgement day, but we can take a clue from how God exercise his wrath on the wicked and how that day on the judgement day will be.
It might not be enemies of the Jews but rather we that rebel against the most high God.
I don’t seek to scare you nor to create a negative picture of our loving God but rather to let you know the reality. Just as our Lord is loving, so will He never leave the the wicked unpunished.
If as young christians we will live our life by pondering upon some of these things, and if we abide in the Lord, these things will not scare us but rather will put us in a continuous state of fear of the lord.
During the old testament days, the prophets spoke about this day, and Christ when on earth continually warned us about the wicked been thrown into the lake of fire.
How will this day be for the wicked?
None of us has ever experienced this day but from the description from the Bible it will be a terrifying day, a day of destruction, the wicked will spend eternity in hell just as the righteous will spend eternity in heaven.
When we speak of hell and the wrath of God especially in a christian environment or in a religious platform, we tend to assume that place is for those in the world ( unbelievers), but we shouldn’t forget the words of our Lord Jesus Christ that ” Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles, I will say depart from me I never knew you”. This makes me believe there are many of us who profess with our mouth as believers but will end up in hell.
This is true because there are as many ungodly things happening in churches as in the world. Abortion is prevailing, fornication is at it maximum in churches, idolatry, hatred, jealousy etc. Every sin you can think of is happening now in our churches and many of us who claim and profess with our mouth find ourselves happily and continually living and approving such sins, but on that day you will end up in the lake of fire if we don’t turn away from these sins.
There is no peace for the wicked on that day.Who are those to be consumed?
1) Those who worship God and idols: When we neglect God and choose the way of the evil, it shows impiety. Its my prayer none of us will be victim of this category of sin, but rather we will be those who serve God with all our heart.
2) Fornicators
3) Liars
4)Disobedient children etc.
Even as we have started a new month, just take some time and access yourself to see if should you sleep and do not wake up again, where will your soul be.This should be your guiding principle, knowing that we have a promise and hope yet to be revealed to us upon the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Its now or never.
God bless you.
